Moe’s Southwest Grill, a popular Mexican restaurant, is looking to significantly expand its presence with new locations in Chester County, writes Kenneth Hilario for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Moe’s Southwest Grill is one of the top restaurant brands in the nation. For the last two years, it has rated as the best fast-casual Mexican restaurant, beating out other heavyweights like Chipotle.

The chain now has 700 locations that are either open or in development, but only a few in the Philadelphia area. Now, however, Moe’s is working on securing leases for several locations in the region, including in Exton, Wayne, and West Chester.

According to Moe’s President Bruce Schroder, Chester County will most likely see the expansion first.

“I would call us an outside-in brand; we typically start in the suburbs and work our way into urban environments,” he said.

The company’s officials have zeroed in on the Greater Philadelphia region with the deciding factor being demand and supply.

“First, we identified several pockets of core customers,” said Schroder. “The second piece is that we have great operators there already and a scenario where there are qualified prospects for future franchise operations.”
