Gabriel Weinberg – founder of DuckDuckGo, the Internet search engine based in Paoli – believes that it’s time to dump Facebook and Google after concerns about Internet privacy, writes Fabiola Cineas for Philadelphia magazine.

With news of the latest mishandling of user data by Facebook spreading, users are saying “enough is enough” to the world’s largest social network.

Last month, in a survey of 1,153 adults by DuckDuckGo, more than half said they planned to share less personal information with Facebook. About the same number said they had no problems with the government regulating the platform. Another 37 percent said they were ready to delete Facebook entirely.

Weinberg suggested that people disengage with Google and Facebook as much as possible.

“The Cambridge Analytica incident, and the coverage surrounding it, is making most people aware of how much data large tech platforms, mainly Facebook and Google, have about them,” Weinberg said.

He said that people are now more aware of how their information can be used to manipulate them through targeted ads or filters.
