Paoli Teenager Turns Hobby into Charitable Effort to Donate Bikes to Kids Who Are Less Fortunate

By

Dom Pecora, a Paoli teenager, has turned his obsessive hobby of fixing bicycles into a charitable effort to donate new bikes to kids who are less fortunate, according to a staff report from FOX29 Philadelphia

The eighth grader at Valley Forge Middle School started fixing bicycles when he was 10. His goal was to earn $2,500 for a mountain bike his mom was not willing to get for him. He discovered he had a passion for fixing bikes, and he continued even after he had got enough to buy his dream bike.

“It was fun, it was different every day, I kept fixing bikes and then at the end of the year, around Christmastime, I had a good amount of money left over,” said the teen.

He used the money to buy brand-new bikes for six children at Christmas.

He continued to grow his business, Dom Fixes Bikes, and soon he was able to relocate it from his mom’s home in Chesterbrook to a garage in Paoli. Last year, he turned his business into a charity with the aim of donating 100 bikes a year.
