Chester County Food BankChester County doctors are literally writing prescriptions for fruits and vegetables, and the new Fresh2You traveling produce market is the pharmacy of choice.

“Diseases melt away when people are eating right with a plant-based diet,” said Paoli doctor Ana Negrón in a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Alfred Lubrano.

Fresh2You is an effort largely stocked by the Chester County Food Bank to replace its all-too-common fat- and sugar-loaded processed foods with nutritious fruits and vegetables, and to bring that fresh produce right into the neighborhoods of Chester County’s hungry.

“We’re working hard to offer a viable way for people here to afford food,” said Fresh2You Manager Roberta Cosentino. “And access is a big issue.”

The program’s silver van will fill up from mid-June through mid-November and sell its goods for cash, food stamps, and those fruit and vegetable prescriptions in eight different communities within the county.

Though one of the wealthiest and healthiest in the nation, “the county uses its farms and wealth to create partnerships to help,” said Chester County Food Bank Program Manager Phoebe Kitson-Davis.
