West Chester’s Archer & Buchanan Architecture, has been named the winner of the inaugural Outstanding Firm Award by the Pennsylvania Council’s Society of American Registered Architects.

The architectural firm, which specializes in residential and institutional design, has been submitting its projects to SARA PA’s awards program for seven consecutive years, and has managed to win an impressive fourteen awards during that period.

“This is quite an accomplishment,” noted architect Rhett Jones of RHA Associates, SARA PA Design Committee member. “It is the result of good hard work, good marketing and a constant effort to provide excellent service to their clients. It is above the norm to be so consistently producing award-winning projects when those opportunities do not come in at a consistent flow. So we decided to acknowledge this unusual skill and award it in the hope of encouraging others to strive for the same goals. This is the first of this type of award.”

The 12th annual SARA PA Design Awards program, which celebrates exemplary accomplishments and excellence in design by architects and students of architecture throughout the region, was held at the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia on November 13th. During the event, eleven projects received awards for the 2015 program, with some of the awardees coming from as far away as California.

“We are grateful to SARA PA for this surprising and humbling honor,” stated Peter Archer, AIA, co-founder of Archer & Buchanan. “We are foremost a team of professionals who work collaboratively with clients to help them realize their dreams.”

The Outstanding Firm Award was not the only win for Archer & Buchanan for the evening. The firm was also honored with the Professional Bronze Award given for its contemporary residence, the ‘Leaning Timber Haus.’

Jury comments, which were read by Jones, noted that the Haus has a “nicely balanced entry façade. Carefully considered design details are carried throughout the house creating elegant and light-filled interior spaces with interesting use of exposed timber framing inside and out.”
