Axalta Coating Systems to Build New Global R&D Center in Philly’s Navy Yards

A global manufacturer that runs its North American operations out of Glen Mills and trains customers in Exton has big plans to coat the world with the latest high-tech innovations.

Axalta Coating Systems, a leading liquid and powder coatings maker for vehicle components and industrial equipment worldwide, recently announced its proposal for a 142,000-square-foot Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard.

“The Global Innovation Center will bring together our world-class experts and next-generation tools to deliver solutions that will meet the needs of our customers around the world,” Senior Vice President and CTO Barry Snyder said in an Australiasian Paint & Panel report.

The project’s schedule sets a late 2017 completion date.

“Innovation is central to Axalta’s growth and ability to meet the needs of our customers years into the future,” Chairman and CEO Charlie Shaver said in the article.

“Coatings are a critical component of so many everyday products. Cars and other vehicles, motors and electronic components, automotive parts, white goods and countless other materials exposed to the elements rely on coatings to make them not only beautiful but more durable, energy-efficient and productive. Our Global Innovation Center will ensure Axalta sets the pace for coatings technology around the world.”
