A unique piece of Chester County film history is available for sale as a stunning West Chester farmhouse hits the market, writes Ariana Perez-Castells for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The interior and exterior of the farmhouse, located at 1775 Meetinghouse Road, appeared in the 2008 film Marley & Me. The beloved movie stars Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as the owners of Marley, a lovable but troublesome Labrador retriever.
The story’s Philly-area connections go even further, as the film was based on the memoir of former Inquirer columnist John Grogan.
The home is currently listed for sale at $2.3 million.
Set across 15 acres, the estate includes the main house as well as a barn, sheds, and a garage. Real estate agent Michael Wallacavage is co-listing the property with broker Bill Cochrane.
Once a working dairy farm, the West Chester farmhouse was built in 1833. It has since received a historical designation.
Spanning nearly 5,000 square feet, the stone house boasts four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. The first floor features wood ceiling beams in the kitchen, next to a sunroom and dining room. The primary bedroom upstairs features a stone wall and a walk-in closet.
The on-site barn can house up to five horses. Wallacavage noted that potential buyers should be able to maintain the land, and that the estate is perfect for homeowners who appreciate a historic property.
