El Batey Puerto Rican Food Trailer, a unique food truck in Oxford, is bringing authentic Puerto Rican flavor to Chester County, writes Gabbie Burton for Chester County Press.
Parked in the BB’s Grocery Outlet parking lot, chef and owner Noelis Ortiz Marrero serves up a range of traditional Puerto Rican favorites. After opening in July 2024, the trailer soon accumulated loyal fans and a strong returning customer base.
Born and raised in Corozol, Puerto Rico, Ortiz moved to the United States in 2017 after receiving her nursing degree. Pivoting to a culinary career after noticing a lack of Puerto Rican food options in the area, she opened El Batey to bring her country’s food and culture to Pennsylvania.
About the idea for the food truck and the significance of bringing her cultural cuisine to Oxford, Ortiz said, “El Batey was born from a dream but also from passion, faith, and the desire to create something of its own that would represent who I am and where I come from.”
Menu items include empanadillas, hand pies, tostones, mofongo, rice and beans, in addition to other entrees and sides. Ortiz uses carefully selected ingredients and traditional family recipes to provide each customer a meal made with true passion and care.
The food trailer is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 AM-6 PM, and Saturdays from 11 AM-5 PM.
