The Chester County Welcome Center recently unveiled its Chester County Sports Hall of Fame exhibit, featuring a line of legendary Chester County sports figures and achievements, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
Inside the Historic Courthouse at 21 W. Market St., the exhibit is packed with photos, articles, memorabilia, and information from over the decades, and it will run until the end of May.
Being around for nearly 20 years and with over 200 inductees, the Hall of Fame captures the rich athletic history of the county, from field hockey and soccer to golf and baseball. The Devon Horse Show, Brandywine Polo Fields, and Iceline Quad Rinks were also mentioned for their parts in hosting regional talent.
“A lot of people don’t know there’s a Chester County Hall of Fame,” said Joan Wagner, known for her lacrosse and field hockey skills, “It’s wonderful to have so many wonderful athletes honored and the display is fantastic.”
Visitors may recognize names such as field hockey’s Tina Sloan Green, racehorse Barbaro, baseball’s Herb Pennock, ice skating’s Johnny Weir, and football’s Dick Vermeil.
“This is a place to pick up some of the special moments of Chester County sports…the history of Chester County sports is amazing at all levels,” said Commissioner Josh Maxwell.
