St. Peter’s Village offers a picturesque glimpse into the past, with much of its charm preserved from the 19th century, writes Angelica Tobit for the Islands.
The village was originally built as housing for workers in the iron mines and the granite quarries, with traces of its industrial heritage still visible today.
The charming spot, which is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, stretches for just 0.25 miles alongside French Creek, offering a perfect blend of historical allure and natural tranquility.
The village’s main street, St. Peter’s Road, is home to around 40 historic buildings, with the standout being St. Peter’s Bakery, known for its freshly made pastries, cakes, and much more. The bakery boasts a century-old sourdough starter and outdoor seating space that overlooks the French Creek Falls.
Glasslight Studios is the perfect destination for hands-on activity. Visitors can browse artisan glassware, have custom home decor made, or take a glassblowing class. Another local artisan shop that offers unique home decor is Dilworth by Design.
Meanwhile, the Village Arcade is a beloved nostalgic treasure trove of retro games, including pinball machines and claw games.
