At Their Phoenixville Restaurant, Sisters Serve the Greek Fare They Grew Up with in a Village Near Mount Vesuvius

At Avlos Greek Cuisine in Phoenixville, sisters Nikoleta and Katerina Skartsila are serving the delicious food they grew up with in a village near Mount Vesuvius, writes Natalie Jason for 6ABC.

“We try to keep it simple, comforting, just get the taste out there,” said Nikoleta.

Before opening the restaurant, Nikoleta worked as a traveling cook in the Greek Isles for seven years. She always wanted to have a restaurant, and she kept convincing her sister, who is an accountant, to join her in that endeavor.

“She would not stop,” said Katerina. “And I said ‘Okay. Fine. You win.’”

The sisters opened Avlos right before the pandemic, which quickly forced them to close. But both the community and their staff stuck by them and never stopped supporting them.

Now, the restaurant is back with dine-in and takeout options, and the customers are flocking in for their lamb chop entrees and octopus served on a bed of puree, among many other delicious meals.
