Frick’s Lock, once a small East Coventry Township village nestled in between Limerick and Pottstown, is now a ghost town.

Frick’s Lock used to be a quaint village located in East Coventry Township, but now it’s a ghost town, writes staff for Atlas Obscura.

In the early 1800s, next to the Schuylkill Canal, Frick’s Lock was created to build a town around the canal’s commercial waterways. The tiny community survived primarily on business generated by its water locks.

However, when railroads made the canal fall into disuse, the town lost its main source of income.

Although the town was struggling with their commercial canal business, residents stayed in Frick’s Lock. It wasn’t until a nuclear power plant was built across the river that the townsfolk decided to pack and leave or were forced out by the plant.

Today, the village once known as Frick’s Lock has been abandoned.

There is no one left in town, just a handful of vacant buildings and old homes. The land is owned by the power plant company and has been surrounded by fencing and signage to keep trespassers and explorers out of the ghost town.

The East Coventry Historical Commission provides tours of the forgotten village.
