Phoenixville Business Restores Vintage Golf Clubs to their Former Glory

Phoenixville’s Groundhog Hickory Golf gives new life to vintage hickory golf clubs through a unique restoration process.

Phoenixville business Groundhog Hickory Golf restores historic golf clubs to their true vintage glory, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Tonight.

The business focuses specifically on restoring hickory golf clubs. This type of wood was commonly used for clubs from the 1800s through the 1930s.

Owner Adam Gresek was inspired to focus on hickory clubs on a trip to Scotland. While playing golf with hickory clubs there, Gresek became interested in acquiring vintage hickories and taught himself the restoration process.

Now, with Groundhog Hickory Golf, Gresek restores the wood to re-sell the vintage clubs. He also removes rust, adds new leather, and makes other adjustments from his Phoenixville workshop.

Gresek shared that hickory makes for a great club material. The wood’s durability makes it flexile and allows the club to maintain its shape.

Both British and American manufacturers historically made hickories, leaving millions dispersed across the world. The vintage design of many hickories makes them unique, as they don’t have many of the modern adjustments seen in clubs today.

Restored clubs are available for sale on Groundhog Hickory Golf’s website. Gresek also makes custom orders, including Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles themed clubs, and he encourages shoppers to reach out with any other personalized requests.
