The Berwyn Fire Company honored the opening of their newest fire house with a community-wide celebration, writes Max Bennett for Patch.
On Sept. 27, the dedication of the new fire house included a parade, souvenirs, food and drink, and celebratory speeches from the community. Attendees included township leaders, elected officials, project architects, and fire company community members.
The building dedication took place at 2:15 PM, followed by the move-in for the fire and EMS apparatuses at 2:30.
Open house tours of the new site began at 3 PM.
With the grand opening, the Berwyn Fire Company is officially leaving its over one hundred-year old location for the new fire house. The new space is located at 23 Bridge Avenue in Berwyn.
The new space includes four apparatus bays for EMS and fire vehicles. The location also features larger sleeping quarters for fire house staff.
The construction also included effective safeguards to reduce carcinogen exposure.
The construction of the new 20,000 square foot location cost an estimated $10.5 million. Funds for the construction came from township donations, Tredyffrin and Easttown tax dollars, and both state and federal grants.
