Tastykake’s Navy Yard Headquarters Is Up for Sale

Tastykake’s 345,500-square-foot headquarters at the Philadelphia Navy Yard is being sold by San Francisco-based Prologis.

Tastykake’s 345,500-square-foot Philadelphia Navy Yard headquarters, built in 2009 as a custom facility for the company, is being sold by Prologis, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

San Francisco-based Prologis acquired the building five years ago through a $13 billion merger with Liberty Property Trust. Tastykake’s parent company, Tasty Baking, has nearly a decade left on its 26-year lease of the entire building.

Founded in 1914, Tastykake was headquartered in North Philadelphia for nearly 90 years. After it relocated to the Navy Yard, the company sold its 2801 Hunting Park Avenue bakery, along with the corporate offices and a distribution center at 3413 Fox Street, for $6 million.

Georgia-based Flower Foods acquired Tasty Baking in 2011. As Tastykake still has about 10 years remaining on its lease term, the sale is unlikely to affect its operations.

The property does not have an asking price listed. Other similar fully leased industrial properties in the area have recently sold for prices ranging from $120 to $130 per square foot. However, none were of comparable size to the Tastykake building.

Prologis sold a data center in the Navy Yard for $16 million in a recent transaction.
