Spring-Ford Area High School’s baseball team, still mourning the loss of a teammate, was surprised by an act of kindness from their opponents, according to a staff report from 6abc.
The moment occurred before the start of the game between Norristown and Spring-Ford’s baseball teams this week. The players from Norristown gave their opponents bracelets featuring colors from both teams and the number 3 in honor of Jason Crater, known as Jay to many.
The 17-year-old Spring-Ford catcher died in an accident earlier this year.
The idea came from April Mocarsky, whose son plays for Norristown High School.
“We’re big on – some things are just bigger than the game,” said Mocarsky. “Some things, just regardless of rivalry, regardless of anything like that. There’s just some things that kind of supersede the game itself.”
The gesture held significant meaning for the Spring-Ford team.
“I know that five years down the road, when our players think back to this, they’re not going to remember the score, but they’re absolutely going to remember this gesture from the Norristown players,” said Coach Rob Mansfield at Spring-Ford.
