The buyers of a Fishtown property, which has three buildings next to SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line, plan to convert the existing hotel into apartments and replace two eateries with a New York-style deli, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Brothers Sam and Mohammed Abiah and other undisclosed investors paid $1.7 million for the site billed as the “gateway to Fishtown” earlier this month.
According to Sam Abiah, the group plans on opening a second location of the Rittenhouse Deli and Juice Bar. This will be operated by the Abiah brothers, in the ground-floor space that used to be the restaurant and bar JJ Mallon’s.
JJ Mallon’s 15-room hotel, which is located on the upper floors of the three-story buildings at 1155 and 1157 N. Front Street, will now be converted into six apartments. The two existing apartments in the 34 W. Girard Avenue building will be renovated. Meanwhile, Calle Del Sabor, the popular takeout taco spot, will remain in its current ground-floor space in the same building.
The property also features a private courtyard, though the group has not yet finalized its plans for it.
