Realtor.com has noted Philadelphia's twin appeal of numerous cultural opportunities and a reasonable residential real estate environment.

According to a new Realtor.com report, Philadelphia is one of the trendiest, yet most affordable, cities in the U.S. Michaelle Bond covered the dual advantages of living locally for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The City of Brotherly Love ranked third among the nation’s 300 largest metros for an active lifestyle without being a budget buster. The rating cited its rich culture and supply of relatively affordable homes when compared with high-cost cultural centers elsewhere in the country.

To make the list of 10 trendiest and affordable cities, metros had to have numerous amenities, including yoga studios, breweries, art house theaters, and farmers markets.

And to be included, metros needed to have median home listing prices of $400,000 or less in November 2021. In the Philadelphia area, the median price of a home was $312,450 for that month.

Our downtown district was particularly noted for its culture, history, and “quaint” neighborhoods — especially Fishtown — along with its boutique hotels, restaurants, art galleries, and shops.

Some realtors, however, worry that Philadelphia’s real estate affordability is only temporary.

“It’s cheaper now to live here than in New York or D.C. or Boston, but how long does that last?” asked Michael Scipione, a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Realty.

“The way it’s going, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to last for much longer.”
