Boxing Ring from Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story Finds New Home in Exton

The boxing ring from Steve Spielberg's West Side Story has found a new home coming from New York to Exton.

A striking set piece from Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story has found a new home at Exton’s Ashbridge Apartments, writes Bill Rettew for Daily Local News.

The boxing ring used in the Oscar-nominated film is located in the Ashbridge gym, which is shared by residents across the complex. Residents are free to use the ring and learn boxing skills by using the actual set piece.

Acquiring the ring was a lucky find. Ashbridge owner Steve Wolfson found the boxing ring from the film at a warehouse in New York City, and decided to bring the historic set piece back to the complex’s gym.

The apartment complex is located across from Main Street at Exton. Since acquiring the boxing ring, visitors and non-residents can stop by to view the ring through the large windows surrounding the Ashbridge gym.

Residents have enjoyed having such a unique item so close to home. Three-time middle weight National Champion Kickboxer Matthew Pickney, who usually trains at Dragon Gym, has made use of the one-of-a-kind boxing ring, stating, “Every time you climb into that ring you get flashbacks of those fights and crowds, wins and losses.”
