After starting an independent comic book label, Philadelphia-based creators Don Steinberg and Rich Harrington are now looking to bring a new comics expo to the city, writes Earl Hopkins for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Steinberg and Harrington have so far published their comic Cereal under the Boink Comix label. The six-part series is inspired by the pair’s early years reading Mad Magazine and eating Cap’n Crunch cereal.

The story focuses on “rebellious” cereal inventor Tracey Colorado who starts hearing cries from the characters on a cereal box after she lands her dream job at a cereal manufacturer. It turns out they are trying to avoid being captured by a cereal killer.

Now that the comic series is fully out, the duo is hoping to breathe new life into Philly’s indie comic community with the inaugural Moore Comics Expo.

The event will take place on April 13 and will highlight emerging cartoonists, graphic novelists, and indie publishers from the Philadelphia region.

“We hope to provide an event where student, novice, and more established cartoonists can show and sell their work, raise their visibility, and expand their network,” said Steinberg.
