15-Year-Old Entrepreneur Dedicated to Giving Back to Local Kids Through His Bicycle Business
Conestoga High School freshman Dom Pecora sells, repairs, and donates bikes as a part of his business, Dom Fixes Bikes, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
Pecora started his business five years ago from his house. When ten-year-old Pecora wanted a new, $3,000 bike, his mother, Karen Nudy, decided to teach her son a valuable lesson: He would have to earn the money himself. When he started fixing bikes in the neighborhood, a young entrepreneur was born. With his hard work, dedication, and Facebook advertising, he was able to purchase the bike he had been dreaming of.
As his business picked up traction, Pecora decided it was time to give back to the community and he chose to do so through his Christmas donations. For the first year, he was able to give away six new bikes for kids on Christmas. The second year, he donated nine bikes and the third year, he gifted twenty-seven bikes. This past holiday, he gave away 121 new bikes.
Dom Fixes Bikes also donated tip-proof 4-wheel bikes to the Timothy School, a nonprofit school in Berwyn for students with autism.
“I really don’t know what I’m going to do tomorrow or in 5, 10, or 40 years,” Pecora said. “It could end tomorrow, but I’d like it to last a long time.”
