Chester County Teen Runs Bike Charity to Spread Message of Safety for Years to Come
A Chester County teen is fixing bikes to save lives. When Dom Pecora was in preschool, he was struck by a car while riding his bike. Now as a young man, his goal is to keep riders safe, details a staff report from 6ABC.
His Berwyn-based non-profit, “Dom Fixes Bikes,” does just that by holding clinics about bike safety and making repairs. Pecora then donates repaired bikes to people who need them.
The 14-year-old started his mountain bike fixing hobby at the age of ten. Pecora made a lot of money from this passion and used his earnings to buy bikes for six children.
The nonprofit had humble beginnings in his mom’s Chesterbrook garage. The 401C-3 charity runs out of a Paoli garage for $100 a month. The organization’s goal is to donate 100 bikes a year.
The garage doesn’t have electricity, so Pecora is limited in when he can work on the bikes. He is looking to find a larger space to have more flexibility in his work.
