Berwyn Teen Celebrates Opening His Own Bike Repair Shop in Malvern

Dom Pecora cuts the ribbon for his business in Malvern.

On Saturday, Berwyn teen Dominick Pecora celebrated the grand opening of his own bike repair shop and nonprofit on Lancaster Avenue in Malvern, writes Jennifer Joyce for FOX29 Philadelphia.

“When I started, I never imagined something this big,” said the 14-year-old. “It feels crazy.”

Pecora had previously operated a bike repair shop out of a Paoli garage.

The teen started fixing bikes when he was ten. He was trying to make enough money to buy his dream mountain bike which cost $2,500.

Not only was he able to earn the needed funds, he had some leftover at the end of the year, so he decided to use it to donate bikes to kids for Christmas.

“I wanted to give back to the community just as they helped me with donating money to get my bike,” he said. “I donated six bikes for Christmas that year. The next year, nine. And last year, 27.”

Dom Fixes Bikes is now an official 501c3, where he fixes, sells, and donates bikes. He also has big plans for the future as he hopes to have three stores running within the next four years.
