Construction for the new Berwyn Fire Station is underway.

Tredyffrin and Easttown townships have joined forces to fund the new Berwyn Fire Station, writes Holly Herman for Patch

Tredyffrin supervisors approved an inter-municipality agreement earlier this week to fund fire and EMS services in the neighboring townships.

“This is the culmination of two years of work to fund and move forward with Easttown to ensure our residents are delivered the highest quality of emergency services,” said William F. Martin, Tredyffrin Township manager.

The agreement had already been approved by Easttown supervisors on Nov. 20.

The agreement is part of a strategy implemented by the two townships to address the strain on local fire companies and emergency medical responders caused by rising call volumes and a simultaneous decrease in the number of volunteers.

The membership of the fire department is very happy with the townships’ decision, according to Assistant Chief Eamon Brazunas

“We are committed to the residents of Tredyffrin and Easttown,” he said. “It’s been a long road.”

The new fire station is expected to cost $9 million. Easttown will contribute $2.1 million, Tredyffrin $4.9 million, and the fire department will get a $2 million state grant.
