Flood of Talent Puts Spotlight on High School Wrestling in Southern Chester County
Thanks to the influx of impressive young talent, high school wrestling in Southern Chester County is coming into the spotlight, writes Nate Heckenberger for The Daily Local News.
Last winter, the Kennett wrestling program achieved its highest peak, Oxford currently has the most lauded pair of freshmen in a while, and many believe that a coaching change could lead to Avon Grove becoming a wrestling school one day.
“Southern Chester County is definitely on the rise,” said Avon Grove coach Rob Beighley. “Kennett is there. Kennett made a breakthrough a couple years ago, they have some studs.”
Tony Fabri has helped Oxford to improve every year he has been there, and the school has two “ incoming freshmen that are hammers,” he added. “They’re gonna be good.”
As for his school, Beighley believes the program is destined to succeed with the current team consisting of him, Caleb Edwards, Nick Barnhart, and Jake Taylor.
Beighley came to Avon Grove from West Chester Henderson during the offseason, after having won four Ches-Mont National Division titles.
“The amount of population we have with the youth, there’s no reason we don’t win here,” he said.
