Get ready to celebrate all things mushroom this weekend at the 38th annual Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, writes Holly Herman for the West Chester Patch.

The festivities will start on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 10 AM and will take place at North Broad and East State streets.

The two-day event attracts more than 100,000 mushroom lovers from all over Pennsylvania and neighboring states. It features numerous mushroom-themed activities, such as educational programs, and music, along with a mushroom-picking contest.

There is also a mushroom growers tent where visitors can see a variety of mushrooms grown by local farmers and a chopped-style cooking competition in which contestants are given half an hour to create mushroom dishes.

Kennett Square produces more than 500 million mushrooms annually and is known as the “Mushroom Capital of the World.”
