Carol and Richard Lee built their own home in 2003, appropriately and coincidentally located on Richard Lee Lane in Phoenixville, writes Paul Jablow for The Philadelphia Inquirer.  

But when their daughter started raising her family in Chadds Ford, the retired couple decided to find a haven closer to their loved ones, designed with their grandchildren in mind.  

The 2,700 square foot ranch home in Kennett Square can’t be seen from the road, giving the Lees a secluded feel. The outdoor pool comes with a sitting portico and can be accessed from one of the two bedrooms or living room.  

Richard, who grew up in Chinatown, wanted the kitchen to replicate his father’s restaurant Dragon Gate with the help of architect Jeffrey Norman.  

The house’s interior designer was their son’s mother-in-law, Julie Caulfield. Throughout the home, there are touches of Tuscan design, due to Carol’s love of the style.  

Their front porch has a firepit table to make s’mores with their three grandchildren.  

Carol loves the location due to its proximity to downtown Kennett Square’s restaurants.  

“I think it’s the near-perfect retirement home,” she said. “Secluded and no stairs to contend with.”
