Pancakes and Kittens? Unlikely Duo Found at Black Cat Cafe in Devon

By

The Black Cat Cafe in Devon has a noble and unique purpose: it aims to help as many cats and kittens as possible find their forever homes, writes Natalie Jason for 6ABC.

The cafe is owned by the nonprofit PALS, or Pet Adoption and Lifecare Society, which is part of a private shelter with a no-kill policy. It first opened 14 years ago and has been going strong ever since. All of the proceeds from the restaurant go almost entirely toward efforts to foster and adopt cats.

The delicious meals that are offered on the breakfast and lunch-focused menu are overseen by Judy Link, the award-winning executive chef.

“This is what we do to save an animal,” she said.

Her daughter, Shannon Clemens is also part of the mission.

“Something I picked up along the way was her cooking skills and then also the passion for cats,” said Clemens.

Everybody who works at the Black Cat Cafe can provide customers with information on how to apply to foster or adopt a feline friend. Currently, the shelter has 94 kittens and 126 adult cats.
