Aquaria, who was born Giovanni Palandrani and grew up in West Chester, is best known for winning the tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race five years ago, but now she is showcasing her other talents to the world, including DJing, writes John-John Williams IV for The Baltimore Banner. 

In drag, Aquaria goes by she/they pronouns, and out of drag, they go by he/they.

“I absolutely love to share space and create a fab experience with a crowd,” said Aquaria, who has been DJing for six years. 

When she is making a mix, Aquaria takes several factors into consideration. 

“I like to try to play to a crowd’s vibe as well as taking into consideration other factors like the venue, the occasion, the time of year, etc.,” they said. 

While she never does a proper drag number while she is DJing, Aquaria still adds some elements of her performance into the mix — although much more contained and realistic versions of it. 

“I love to enjoy the stage and dance and will often lip sync and give a light performance for some of my favorite tracks,” she said.
