Lincoln Professor’s Installation Project Shows Brandywine Valley Artists in Another Dimension

A Lincoln University professor is showing Chester County artists in a new light. The Projected in Place project is the brainchild of Michael Lynch and collaborator Matt Nelson. The works from artists such as Brandywine Valley legend Andrew Wyeth, Howard Pyle, and Karl J. Kuerner are projected onto their sites of inspiration, writes J.F. Pirro for The Hunt.

Nelson introduced Lynch to the projection idea and the two got the ball rolling. Lynch purchased equipment and experimented with projections at his own place of employment.

Without permission, he has since staged projections at the Andrew Wyeth Studio and N.C. Wyeth House. Lynch calls this “large-scale guerilla street art,” and sees it as means to “propel Wyeth into the 21st century.”

Not every institution was happy with Lynch’s project or found it very compelling. He even had his request to project at certain locations denied. However, he persisted on his project and landed his largest “unveiling” at Chadds Ford’s Christian C. Sanderson Museum.

To this day he works on finding the original sites of inspirations, some are harder than others to identify. He currently has 100 installations in his portfolio and is ironing out details for an upcoming exhibit at a barn in Chadds Ford.
