Brandywine Art Museum Hosting a Special ‘Evening at Kuerners’

By

On June 21st, Brandywine River Museum of Art will be organizing an ‘Evening at Kuerners’ at Andrew Wyeth’s favorite painting spot, the Kuerner Farm.

On June 21st, both established and budding artists from Chester County will get a chance to explore the property where Andrew Wyeth found intriguing subjects for hundreds of his works over seven decades.

Brandywine River Museum of Art is inviting artists to an ‘Evening at Kuerners’ at Kuerner Farm, where they will be able to sketch, paint, or photograph the farm.

Andrew Wyeth stirred enormous controversey with his Helga portraits.

The farm, which is a National Historic Landmark, was owned by Karl Kuerner and his wife Anna. It was a never-ending source of inspiration for Wyeth who completed his first painting of the farm in 1932, aged 15.

The farm came to national attention after Wyeth revealed he had been secretly painting Helga Telsdorf, Karl Kuerner’s German nurse. Those paintings drew mixed and sometimes unpleasant reviews–especially from Andrew Wyeth’s wife Betsy.

The event  is $15 for members and $20 for non-members, and will run from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Participants will meet at the Brandywine River Museum of Art parking lot fifteen minutes before the start and should bring their own art materials.

To secure one of the limited spaces register online or call 610-388-8326, and for more information, contact Laura Westmoreland at 610-388-8120 or LWestmoreland@brandywine.org.
