On Sunday, June 18, 2023, celebrate African-American culture on Bridge Street, at the Colonial Theatre, and at Reads & Company with a free Juneteenth festival featuring interactive activities, vendors, food, magic, storytelling, and performers! Scroll for a schedule, list of events, and locations.

Juneteenth is a Federal Holiday that observes the date in 1865 when word reached Texas, more than two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, that slavery had been abolished and those enslaved were free. Learn more about Juneteenth’s significance from the museum scholars of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture.

2023 Phoenixville Juneteenth is presented by Black Light Projects and Diversity in Action Phoenixville in collaboration with Orion Communities, The Phoenixville Community Health Foundation, The Colonial Theatre, Forever Changes Records, and Trellis for Tomorrow. The festival is supported by generous donations from individuals, local businesses, and foundations.

These additional programs will be offered at the Colonial Theatre in the days surrounding June 18 and may require ticketing or free or pay-what-you-wish:

  • Summer of Soul – Sunday, June 4 at 4 PM and Wednesday, June 7 at 7 PM
  • The Wiz sponsored by Black Light Projects – Sunday, June 11 at 1:30 PM
