West-Chester’s Brandywine Valley SPCA is making waves in New Castle, Delaware. The Copeland Center for Animal Welfare, named in honor of animal advocate Tatiana Copeland, provides more space for animals in need, writes Mark Eichmann for WHYY.
This 20,000 square foot building, described as “whimsically designed” features six dog play yards, comfortable lodging, an outdoor “catio” and individual condos for kitties who prefer to room alone.
“Our mission is not just to be there for animals but to involve people in improving the lives of animals,” said Adam Lamb, CEO of the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
The center plans to host summer camps, birthday parties and train junior volunteers. The Copeland Center features Delaware’s first ICU for shelter pets and the capacity for cats has nearly doubled.
The SPCA purchased the space in 2020, it’s now considered the region’s “largest animal welfare” center.
