Chester County residents are among the most generous givers in Pennsylvania, according to a recently released study by SmartAsset.

SmartAsset dug into IRS data to determine which counties are the most generous in Pennsylvania and the nation.

To find the places where residents were giving the most, the study measured both how much residents donate as a percentage of their net incomes and the proportion of residents in each county who make charitable donations.

Chester County ranked in first place in the state, based on the percentage of people who make charitable contributions, at 15.57 percent. This statistic also put the county among the Top 100 in the country, at No. 71.

Chester County also ranked highly based on how much people donate as a percentage of their net income, coming in fourth place with 1.38 percent.

The combination of these two factors makes Chester County the most generous in the Keystone State, with a Charitable County Index of 44.65.
