A $750,000 state grant has been earmarked for the transformation of the former Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School property in Drexel Hill into new facilities for a Delaware County Community College southeast campus, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The announcement came from State Rep. Mike Zabel, whose 163rd District includes the former high school.

The college purchased the high school from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

A community-centered college campus is planned on 7.5 acres of the 30-acre property, combining the college’s Upper Darby Center and the Southeast Center in Sharon Hill.

The new funding comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. It will cover the demolition of the school building on the property as well as new construction costs.

The grant will also help cover the creation of a site that will host an early childhood education center, two faculty offices, and one classroom.

“It is rewarding to be part of efforts that transform older properties like the former Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School into new treasures that will help to educate learners of all ages and provide good-paying jobs,” Zabel said.
