Ice cream is an ideal treat at any time of the year, but even more so in the summer, writes Victoria Alfred-Levow for Main Line Today

While there are several household names, like Dairy Queen, on Chester County’s ice cream scene, there are also plenty of independent shops that offer customers something unique.

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream in Berwyn has fun flavors, with some appropriately unusual names, including Elvis, Spouse Like a House, and Graham Central Station, on its menu. There are dozens of options to choose from, including several vegan offerings, such as the Coconut Milk Ice Cream.

Meanwhile, La Michoacana Ice Cream in Kennett Square is a 15-plus-year-old Mexican shop that gives you the option to sprinkle your ice cream with chili powder and cinnamon. There are several classic options, such as chocolate-dipped ice cream popsicles, as well as several exotic flavors, like corn and guava.
