Habitat for Humanity of Chester County recently opened the doors to its newest ReStore, located at 785 Starr Street in Phoenixville.

The store is filled with furniture, appliances, and much more.

HfHCC’s ReStore in Caln, meanwhile, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary of serving Chester County.

The nonprofit is excited to connect with the community through these two stores. The ReStore is an ideal way to learn more about what Habitat really does to help neighbors in need.

The ReStores are open to the public and offer an eclectic mix of new and gently used items. Inventory changes daily and is based on community donations. While there are staff members employed by Habitat, the organization also relies heavily on volunteers who keep the store organized and clean.

A common misconception is that cabinets or furniture donated to Habitat end up in future homeowners’ houses. What actually happens is those items are taken to the ReStore where they are sold to raise funds to build more affordable homes. This keeps waste out of landfills while providing the community with discounted options on big-ticket items such as large appliances or big pieces of furniture.

Cabinets and building supplies donated to Habitat are not used in the homes, so that every homeowner has the same start. It would be unfair to supply a family with an upgraded version of an appliance while another makes do with an older model. This is why the sales from the ReStore are so important. They help Habitat provide all future homeowners an equal opportunity to thrive in their new homes.

The ReStore in Phoenixville is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 AM-5 PM. Donations can also be made at this location from 10 AM-4:30 PM. Here’s a detailed description of acceptable items.

Chester County residents are also eligible for free pickup of larger items and can make a request directly online.
