The affordable housing crisis is robbing local families of their health and well-being.

Help change the narrative by participating in Habitat for Humanity of Chester County’s 18th Annual Driving to Build Strength, Stability, and Self-Reliance Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 13 from 9 AM-5 PM at French Creek Golf Club in Elverson.

HfHCC’s goal is to build 57 homes in the next five years, and your registration will make a difference in the life and future of a family in need. Also, a variety of sponsorship opportunities are available.

America’s affordable housing crisis existed before the pandemic, but it has since been exacerbated. The affordability gap between the cost of a home and what people actually make is present in every community in Pennsylvania, from the most rural to the most urban.

“As one of the wealthiest counties in the state and the nation, Chester County is sought after when it comes to finding a place to live,” said Chester County Commissioner Marian Moskowitz. “But the truth is, not everyone can afford to live here, including those who have grown up here.”

A nonprofit based in Coatesville, HfHCC believes everyone deserves a home and thus offers the hardworking neighbors in the community a hand-up to homeownership. It works in collaboration with families and individuals to build and finance safe, affordable housing. Since 1989, HfHCC has helped more 150 families achieve their dream of homeownership.

“Now more than ever, the need for high-quality affordable housing is echoing throughout Chester County,” said Chris Wiseman, HfHCC’s Executive Director. “Habitat’s model of a zero percent mortgage for homes built side by side with volunteers and the homeowners themselves is creating generational changes. Homes are the key to the middle class and the stability that creates a strong workforce in our county.”
