Tuesday with Michael: Your Outlook Determines Your Outcome

By

Michael Gidlewski

Think of your attitude as the mental filter through which you experience the world around you. Be negative and you will surely attract negative people, things and situations into your life.

Be positive and you will surely attract exactly the opposite – positive people, things and situations. The single biggest reason people fail in life and in business is attitude. Attitude determines altitude. Outlook determines the outcome and certainly makes the difference.

Both are self-fulfilling prophecies. “Change how you look at things and the things you look at will change.”

Attitudes both negative and positive are learned behaviors remember attitudes are habits of thinking.  They are formed the same way other habits are through spaced repetition.  Negative attitudes come from thinking negative thoughts over and over until they have become a part of your subconscious – they’ve become habitual, a part of your personality.

You may not even realize you have a negative attitude because it’s been with you for so long. Once you have a bad attitude, you expect failure and disaster. This expectation turns you into a strong magnet for failure and disaster. Then it becomes a vicious cycle. You expect the worst – you get the worst – your negative beliefs are reinforced – you expect the worst – you get …

. . . Got the picture?

We can condition our minds to think positively by replacing our negative thoughts with positive thoughts minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day. We’ll go into that deeper a little later.

As you become a more positive and optimistic thinker you will attain greater satisfaction with yourself, your career, and your personal life and you’ll also notice an increase in productivity, more energy, and a healthier mind and body.

You can seldom control what happens to you in life, you can’t control external circumstances but you always, I repeat, always can control your reaction or your response to the circumstances. It’s a matter of having a positive, optimistic attitude.  Optimists look past the obstacles and develop an attitude of healthy possibility thinking.

They look at what can be rather than what can’t be. No matter what happens to you in life, it’s better to learn from it than to burn from it.  Instead of spending the rest of your lives remorseful and resentful you can learn to make the best of your misfortunes and get on with life.

If you see our world in a positive light, you are much more likely to be ambitious and productive people living lives of worth and meaning.
