Tuesday with Michael: Secret #6: Review & Execute

By

After you create your goals, schedule an appointment with yourself every week to work on the action steps that will move you forward toward your goals.

Our lives are built on the foundation of six major areas which is referred to as “The Wheel of Life”. These areas are Family & Home, Financial & Career, Mental & Educational, Physical Health, Cultural, and Spiritual & Ethical.

These areas are the pillars of life and should be balanced equally. If more attention is paid to one area than another, it creates conflict and problems arise.  If you are spending at least one hour a week reviewing and realigning your plan of action, you will be able to ensure your Wheel of Life is balance and that you will stay focused on achieving your goals.

Your personal plan of action is the master plan for the rest of your life. Your planner should contain a master list of priority business and personal goals.

Success in life is the result of the progressive realization of your predetermined goals. The world is infested with distractions and noise designed to take us off our goals program and put us on someone else’s goals program which is why we must continue to revisit our personal plan of action and continue to crystallize our thinking about what really matters most in our life.

If you write your plan of action and never look at it, it is of no more benefit to you than if you threw it in the trashcan or never wrote it at all.

Mark time in your calendar to work on your business. It’s easy to get so caught up in our day-to-day responsibilities of running our business that our planning and business development suffers. Block out time on your calendar now for the entire year that will be devoted to working on your business.

Reaching your goals takes as long as it takes and often longer than you expect. Something almost always goes wrong; however, something almost always goes right. Count on it! Regardless of the circumstances or the pace, continue to work diligently with fierce determination each day towards your goals.

Here are some thoughts on what to do to accomplish your goal:

1.          Write out your goal using the S.M.A.R.T concept (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound)

2.          Put a date on it…both a beginning and ending date.

3.         Make a list of obstacles that you anticipate; often just making the list helps in overcoming them.

4.         Make a list of people who will help you reach your goal.  People will help you if you ask.

5.         Be sure you have the skills to reach your goal or plan to develop them.

6.         Write out specific action steps for achieving your goal.

7.         Make a list of benefits you will have upon the achievement of your goal. Ask yourself: What’s in it for me?

8.         Work on your goal every day and start early in the day.

Following these steps will keep you on track to achieving what you really want in business and in life. So many people move through life dreaming and wishing and never write a plan to achieve what they want. And there are others who write the plan and never revisit it.

If you want to make progress toward your goals, be one of the select few who reviews their plan regularly and executes it. This simple concept will improve your business and life exponentially.
