Longwood Gardens is closed to guests until Wednesday, Aug. 4, due to a vehicle crash that occurred the afternoon of July 29 on the east side of the Visitor Center. Guests and Longwood staff are safe, and refunds will be issued for any tickets purchased for this timeframe.

The accident involved a single tanker truck that crashed into and breached the wall on the east side of the Visitor Center, near the Group Visits entrance. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Two Longwood staff members sustained minor injuries and were treated on the scene. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

“We would like to thank the Pennsylvania State Police, Longwood Fire Company, and Kennett Fire Company for their quick response and invaluable assistance in ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests, staff, and those involved in the accident,” Longwood Gardens said in a statement posted on its website.

“We would also like to thank our guests and community for their outpouring of support and concern. We are grateful that Longwood holds a special place in the hearts and minds of so many in our region.”
