Longwood Gardens Reimagined has created a dedicated space for the historic Cascade Garden, showcasing the iconic work of Brazilian artist and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, reports Timothy Walton for 6abc.
The garden was recreated inside the new building, using mostly the same plants and stone from the original garden that was designed by Roberto Burle Marx, and opened in 1993. The recreated rainforest environment preserves the acclaimed conservationist’s only surviving garden in the United States.
“Roberto really played a lot with geometric textures and designs,” said Kenny Silveira, West Conservatory Manager at Longwood Gardens.
The Cascade Garden features 16 beautiful waterfalls throughout.
“We have cascades everywhere,” said Silveira.
Meanwhile, the towers of plants represent the designer’s Brazilian roots.
“You want to feel like we’re in a rainforest,” explained Silveira.
The garden has plants of all sizes, with a vibrant array of colors that capture the eye.
It is not the only change brought by Longwood Reimagined. The project, which was decades in the making, revamped 17 acres of the property and places design and discovery at the heart of every visit.
