Tuesday with Michael: Training Techniques that Explode Productivity and Learning.

If we want training and development of our people to stick, we need to give them more than the latest “One Minute Whatever Book”, expecting them to be great managers after the half-hour read. Knowledge is one thing but it is not the main thing. Knowledge without action is a delusion.

We must equip our people with not only knowledge but the skills and process to influence their attitudes and behaviors if we want to improve results in the organization.

Many managers in organizations have MBA’s (managers by accident). Typically, they had been the best and most productive employees, technicians and producers and were made managers with very little, if any, real structured development and learning program.

There is always a gap between performance and potential and our job is to reduce the interference to improve the performance and results.

As Alvin Toffler once wrote, “Accept change or remain behind in a state of shock!”

So how do we help our people become the best managers and the best version of themselves possible?

To achieve personal and professional success, you must first change attitudes and

behaviors. Our methodology uses the concept of spaced repetition in the delivery of program content thereby greatly improving content retention and internalization.

Some people are auditory learners who learn best by listening; some are visual learners who do best by reading and writing; and some are kinesthetic learners who retain information best by “doing”.

Each of these methods impacts retention and internalization of information and most people need some form of each of these to “develop”. At Achievement Unlimited, we utilize each of these methods to focus on development – which delivers actual results for your employees and your business.

“Training” involves the acquisition of specific skills and competencies. Training involves data, information, tools, and techniques. Training is often about what to do, when to

do it, and how to do it. It is an event while development is a process. “Development” involves internal changes in an individual and as a derivative, can transform an entire

organization and its culture. Development focuses on values, self-esteem, confidence levels, leadership beliefs, commitment, and motivation. At the organizational level, development deals with the creation or enhancement of processes.

When the transformation of people’s commitment and motivation is combined with enhanced processes, overall organizational performance is improved.

The Achievement Unlimited program and process involves training, but our emphasis is always on development. Without development, any investment in training yields minimal returns.

It is development that makes training pay off. Our process is the implementation of proven tools and processes with spaced repetition. It is designed to permanently influence and positively impact those behaviors, attitudes, actions, and systems which are necessary to desired results and performance.
