Phil & Jim’s Steaks and Hoagies in Parkside has won the title of “Best Cheesteak” in the Delaware Valley region, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

That covers Philadelphia and its collar counties, along with the states of Delaware and New Jersey.

The shop is newly-owned by Dan and Gia Miller and Costa Miller.

The title comes from the 2021 Cheesesteak Madness Tournament run by Jim Pappas of Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure.

Pappas, from Swarthmore, sampled every cheesesteak in the tri-state area, more than 800.

Pappas chose his top 64. Judges and an online popular vote narrowed that to four.

The cheesesteaks were judged on steak, cheese, rolls, extras, and overall experience.

When it was all over, Phil & Jim’s came out on top.

Fresh cuts of meat, finely chopped; fresh rolls from a Conshohocken bakery; and sandwiches made the same way each time gave them the win, says co-owner Costa Miller.

“People know what they’re getting, and it’s quality and superior taste.”

Owners Dan and Costa are cousins. Dan grew up in Upland. Costa was raised in Ridley and graduated from Ridley High School. Gia is an alum of Sun Valley High School.
