Coatesville’s Terrance Laird Wins 100 Meters at NCAA Track & Field Championships, Leads LSU to National Title

Terrance Laird, who competed scholastically for Coatesville High School and graduated from Collegium Charter School, recently won the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and helped LSU win the national championship, according to a staff report from TrackAlerts.com.

Laird joined the track team at Coatesville after he was too late to try out for the baseball team. The unexpected switch proved fruitful as he soon emerged as a world-class sprinter.

During the NCAA Championships last week in Eugene, Ore., he competed in three events. In addition to finishing first in the 100 meters, he anchored LSU’s relay team that took first in the 4×100 and also placed second in the 200 meters.

His stellar performance ensured that the Tigers took home the team title.

“We had a razor-sharp focus coming into this meet,” said Laird. “We got the ball rolling today with the 4×100 meter relay. The whole day was the LSU show. We talked about doing this, and we did. Proud of this group.”
