6ABC: New Kindness Calendar Helps Spread Goodwill in Phoenixville One Day at a Time

By

A new campaign in Phoenixville is encouraging community members to be kind every day of the week, according to a report from 6ABC.

Dolores Winston, the director of community programs with the Borough of Phoenixville, is leading the charge with a Kindness Calendar.

Each day of the week has its own theme and highlights a different cause. For example, Wednesdays focus on supporting and donating to local organizations. As the month proceeds, the calendar advances kindnesses from one recipient to the next.

“Strolls in the Spring” — with each recommendation for a walk being a bit longer than the previous one — land on Saturdays.

Fridays are for “being kind to essential workers.”

Winston shares her own approach to this end-of-the-workweek kindness. She visits frontline heroes each Friday and posts pictures from her stop-overs on Facebook.

“I get a nice little card,” she said, describing a tangible aspect of her goodwill. “I put a nice little gift card in there, and I thank them for their service.”

Winston is in charge of the borough’s Communities That Care program. As part of this initiative, families can buy lawn signs that read “Together We Can Raise the Village” to show their support for the cause.
