While many had to postpone or scale down their weddings in the past 13 months, Phoenixville couple Kathy O’Hearn and Steve McGettigan managed to hold their dream ceremony in the nick of time, writes Lisa Dukart for Main Line Today.

Just a week before the March 2020 statewide lockdown, the Penn State sweethearts tied the knot at the Ballroom at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square on a perfect spring day in front of 165 guests.

The wedding went off without a hitch. McGettigan’s cousin presided, and both the bride and the groom exchanged their own vows.

“That was really important to me,” said O’Hearn. “We’re both Catholic, and we toyed with the idea of having a Catholic ceremony. But I really wanted to make sure the words we said to each other were our own.”

The pair’s golden retriever, Toby, also participated in the ceremony, accompanied down the aisle by one of the groomsmen. He also made the cocktail hour more joyous by mingling with the guests.

“We’re fortunate to have had all of our friends and family together,” said McGettigan.
