Plans by developer Branchport Capital to build a 290-unit luxury apartment complex on the site of the Quality Inn in West Goshen Township have hit a wall, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.
The builder proposed to construct a four-story, 108,000-square-foot building that would be called “West Chester Gateway” to replace the hotel that has been standing on the property for the past five decades.
The nine-acre property is zoned as C-3, or Limited Commercial. However, to allow the development of the proposed building, the zoning needed to be changed. Earlier this week, the board of supervisors voted not to change the zoning, effectively nixing the developer’s proposal.
One of the reasons for the decision were concerns over traffic in the area that is already “absolutely horrendous,” said Supervisor Hugh Purnell.
A resident present at the meeting said that the traffic has lessened right now due to the pandemic, but that will change as conditions ease. The resident also emphasized that the project might affect the privacy and safety of nearby residents.
