Branchport Capital is proposing to build a four-story building with 290 luxury apartments at the Quality Inn site in West Goshen Township, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

The 108,000-square-foot building and a parking lot would replace the 144 motel rooms on the property, where police have recently had to respond to a significant number of calls.

Township Supervisor Ashley Gagne noted the seriousness of the offenses taking place at the property, but she was not in favor of the new development.

“I’d prefer to address the problems at the Quality Inn site without building such a large apartment complex,” she said.

Meanwhile, Township Manager Casey LaLonde expressed his support.

“Any redevelopment at that property would be favorable,” he said.

The property is currently zoned C-3, or Limited Commercial. This means the zoning would have to be changed to accommodate an apartment building.

The proposed building would be known as West Chester Gateway and would be constructed primarily to cover the existing footprint. It would include 34 percent of landscaped green areas, as well as 41 percent of paved areas.
