With the number of cases remaining high but decreasing slightly in the past two weeks, Chester County has dropped from an “extreme” to a “very high risk” level for coronavirus, according to The New York Times.

Although the number of hospitalized patients and COVID-19-related deaths during that period has fallen, the test positivity rate remained very high, which suggests that the number of cases may be undercounted.

In the past two weeks, an average of 196 cases per day was reported in the county. Since the start of the outbreak, approximately one in 20 residents have been infected.

The highest number of cases in Chester County was reported in December.

Meanwhile, the average ICU occupancy was at 73 percent as of Jan. 21, falling slightly compared to the previous month. The trend in deaths in the county tends to lag weeks behind the trend in reported cases.
